Here are members of the Perak Malaysian-Japanese Friendship Society, today is Saturday 5th July, we take a trip to the Cameron Highlands for the Japanese there are celebrating their Bon Festival in this evening. Let's see what are Bon Odori and Bon Festival-----

Bon Odori 盆踊り
Bon Festival is a Buddhist event to hold memorial services for ancestors, from August 13 to 15 [July in the lunar calender] in which ancestors' souls are welcomed with sacred fire and seen off with a bonfire for escorting the spirits of the dead.
During the Bon period, vegetables and fruits are offered at Bon shelves, and in certain regions of Japan, people enjoy the Bon dance, performed around a drum set on a scaffold. Small lanterns on floats are set adrift on rivers, symbolizing ancestors' souls [shoro nagashi].
Bon Odori originates from the story of Mokuren, a Buddha's disciple, who used his super natural power to look upon his deceased mother. He found that she had fallen into the Realm of Hungry Ghosts and was suffering. 目连救母的故事,有听过吗?
Followed Buddha's instructions, he made offerings to the priests who had just completed
their summer retreat on the 15th day of the 7th month.
Mokuren, happy of his mother's release from the hell, began to dance with joy.
From this dance of joy comes Bon Odori or Bon Dance, a time in which ancestors and their sacrifices are remembered and appreciated.
